Living Word Update

By Tim Skolrud |  October 24, 2011

I thought I would write another update on what is happening at Living Word.

I hope you had the chance to meet Joe Michalak this weekend.  Joe is working on his Masters of Ministry at Northwest University,  He will be doing an Internship with us for the next 4-5 months.  I hope to do a video interview soon to give you a little background on Joe and his family.  But first I thought I would tell you how this came together.

I was contacted about a month ago from a friend of mine named Alan Ehler.  Alan is the Professor of Pastoral Ministries @Northwest University in Kirkland, Wa.  He wrote me a letter asking if we would be interested in taking on an Intern.  The internship is a requirement for the Masters in Ministry program.  It gives the student a chance to experience Ministry in a "real life" situation.  I thought that Living Word is the perfect place for an intern right now.  We are doing things that most churches never do.  Think about it... When CrossPoint Church in Port Orchard officially became Living Word Port Orchard this month, it will give Joe the chance to experience what a church merger looks like.  When we start services in January in the remodeled building it will give Joe the opportunity to be a part of a church plant.  With our two house churches it will give Joe the opportunity to see what God can do with people that he will probably never meet.  So if you haven't met Joe yet, make sure to welcome him next time you see him.

CrossPoint Church officially became Living Word Port Orchard on October 1st.  The remodel is going well.  We are still ahead of schedule.  The majority of the carpet and paneling has been removed. (Only one office left to go) We had to replace some of the framed walls in the basement because of some water damage, but the new walls are going up this week.  We will also add some electrical outlets in these new walls.  The platform revisions have been finished and the sanctuary wall have been primed and are close to being ready to paint.  We just finished removing all the lighting in the sanctuary in preparation for painting next week.  So many good things are happening.  I will try to shoot an update video soon so you can see it coming together!

It has been nice to have full services again after the summer slow down.  Our balcony has been getting full again.  Time for some more chairs!  Look for those about the first part of December along with the new carpet.  That will give our building in Silverdale a nice fresh look to match the new sanctuary in Port Orchard.

I just want to close by say thank you for your faithfulness in your financial gifts to Living Word.  We took on a big financial project with our adoption of CrossPoint church in Port Orchard.  Our loan proceeds wont be in until December, but we have been able to move forward quickly anyway because of your faithfulness.  We have ordered the chairs, windows and doors because we have a nice financial reserve right now!  If you still want to give toward the project you can give online to our building fund on the website or just mark an envelope to say building and if will go toward our project.  Thank you for making this one of our best financial years ever.

Well that's all for now.  Keeps us in your prayers as we seek to see more people come to know Jesus!

 Tim
